We chatted with Mule Ties to find a little more about the brand and how they got started.

 

What’s the story behind the brand?

We started about a year and a half ago. My boyfriend had the idea of bow ties and how we haven’t really seen any cool ones out there, at least not where we are based, which is in Calgary AB Canada. From that idea, I started learning how to make bow ties myself, thanks to DIY Youtube videos! Few days later, we invested in a sewing machine and weeks later I started taking classes on how to sew. My boyfriend/business partner eventually worked on getting our website done. We knew from the get go we wanted an online shop vs a brick and mortar store. We got busy pretty quick by using social media such as Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter. We eventually took it to the next level and decided to get our ties manufactured overseas. We want to make sure that we can be competitive as a business and be able to scale it, both quality and quantity. We are happy we made that decision.

 

Where do you get all your bow ties made?

When we first started we ordered our neck ties from the US and they get their ties made from China. As we grew we moved to a different manufacturer located in Europe and partnered with a designer there.
