Founded in 2002, Maxwell Scott Bags reinterprets the art of leather craftsmanship for the modern day. The brand’s beginnings can be traced back to a recreational tour of Italy by William's mother Jacqueline. The discovery of leather goods on family travels combined with strong entrepreneurial instincts saw the potential for a new breed of bag maker.
Drawing on the rich Italian heritage of leather goods, founder William Scott Forshaw began to conceive an antidote to the throwaway fashion culture he observed elsewhere. In its place would be a dedication to the finest materials and a design philosophy influenced by innovative yet understated British design. And so the original favourite the Paolo briefcase was born.

The quest for the brand’s first tannery had begun. A desire to honour traditional manufacturing methods and to source only the finest full-grain leather led William to the heart of the Italian leather industry in Tuscany. From that moment, every creation from Maxwell Scott Bags would be handcrafted by the region’s highly skilled craftsmen and craftswomen. Their craft complemented by Maxwell's British design team who are responsible for the iconic shapes, styles and detailing of their bags.
THE FACTORY
The desire of Maxwell Scott Bags to honour traditional manufacturing methods and to source only the finest full-grain leather drew them to the renowned leather master craftsmen of Tuscany and their supply chain.
For over two hundred years, the region has been the beating heart of the Italian leather industry. The world’s best leather artisans and innovators converge along the banks of the river Arno from Florence to Pisa, inspired by their surroundings and the generations of craftsmen before them. Their exclusive access to authentic vegetable tanning processes and the very finest quality full-grain leather is guaranteed by the esteemed Italian Consortium of Leather Tanners. As such, Tuscany was the natural location for production.
Every piece from Maxwell Scott Bags is produced there by their 15-strong production team, working to the strictest technical and ethical guidelines. The dedication to their craft is enshrined in Maxwell's monogram which acts as their lifetime guarantee on every bag.
