It's the year of the pocket square, and you need look no further than Emily Carter for her stunning hand painted iterations that will be sure to spice up your three piece suit. Themed around natural history, scientific illustration, flora, fauna and english heritage, her designs start out as a hand drawing and are developed into a perfectly, hand hemmed silk sqaure. We chatted with her about her brand, her astronomic aspirations and living in London town.

What’s the story behind the brand?
My brand began purely with illustrations in 2012 when I began developing my style of drawing alongside my degree. I actually specialised in mixed media knitwear and womenswear for my final collection, and it wasn't until my final term at London College of Fashion that I decided to try print and put together the illustrations I'd created over the previous years. The prints worked very successfully so that's where my brand began. I've always had an entrepreneurial way of thinking so I'd always planned to start my own company - I wasn't expecting it to be this soon but I think it's important to go for it when the time is right. My scarves had an immediate response from stockists and buyers so I then expanded into menswear and have continued building it ever since. All of my designs are spired by my interest in natural history, curiosity cabinets and scientific illustration.
Where do you source all your materials from?
All of my products are manufactured and printed in London and sourced in the UK.

Do you live by a motto?
I live by a fair few mottos: hard work and perseverance always pay off and you get out of life what you put in. Never give up, anything is possible if you believe you can do it.
Number 1 on your bucket list?
Travelling South America, I'd love to spend a year just exploring and hiking around Colombia and Peru. And if I had the extortionate amount money that it costs to go to the moon, I'd love to do that - but that's rather unlikely!
3 items you can't leave the house without?
I never leave the house without one of my scarves, either to wear or just to have with me, you never know who you're going to bump into who you might need to show them to! I always have red lipstick with me, and I'm always wearing a very printed and excessive outfit.

Favourite Instagram Page?
I don't have a favourite page, but here are 4 that I really like: @jordanbyronbritton, @sophie__rose, @robphillipswork (Rob was my creative director at LCF, he's a fantastic illustrator) and @Camillewalala
Favourite place to eat in London?
I've been to many wonderful places to eat in London, but I must say my favourite has to be the Breakfast Club, I've been there so many times since I've lived in London and I've never had something I didn't like - the food is super!
